2005 Mike Moore Award

This season's award voting is officially closed. I know some of you were waiting for the last minute, but that may have conflicted with next year's voting and we don't have the intern power here at the league office to handle that kind of work. So, for those that did vote, gold stars. For those that didn't, thanks for making our job easier.

On to the first award. The Moore winner this year was almost an afterthought during the heated 2B bidding at the draft. Not surprising considering he was known more for being "scrappy" than being, well, "good." Sure, he faded a bit in the second half, but Brian Roberts sure showed Jerry Hairston Jr. who his real daddy is, didn't he?

The results:
Brain Roberts 9
Jason Giambi 5
Felipe Lopez 4
Jorge Cantu 3 (Ed. note: where's the love?)
Jose Contreras 2
Justin Duscherer 2
Kevin Millwood 2
Jhonny Peralta 2
Andy Pettitte 1

"(Casey Stengal) lost big with his style in Brooklyn and Boston, but he posted the greatest record that any manager ever had with the Yankees. Maybe Torre's style just needed the right circumstances to be successful. I'll believe it when I see a little more of it."

-- Bill James (from his 1983 Baseball Abstract article on Joe Torre, then manager of the Atlanta Braves)

Welcome to Eddieland

Hey fellas, just wanted to drop in and say hi and let you know that I am looking into opening a funeral home. I figured at this stage in my life (work sucks, marriage is over) that I am now ready to take on death as a living. Death to stay alive. That's a good one. So if anyone is interested or has any words of wisdom, I am all ears.

Heimlich von ARod

Here's the best article I've read so far about ARod's "lacking" performance in October.

And here's another article on the phenomenon we so lovingly refer to as "choking." It's by Malcolm Gladwell and, while not entirely sports-related, does a good job examining the difference between choking and panicking.

LOC Record

LOC draft 2006:

Saturday, March 11th - in Hoboken, NJ at Dan W's place

Hopefully this works for everyone.

Welcome back. You may have noticed a few changes. The two biggest are to your right.

First, there's a button linking to a discussion board. That's right

Second, you'll notice some news headlines. Just another nice little enhancement.

As for the site itself, this is going to be the primary information source for the league going forward. Lineups, free agent results, power rankings, announcements, awards -- the whole shebang. This will open the league up and (hopefully) create the community feel I believe we all would like to have.

In this Post section, let's keep it short and sweet. For one, links to articles instead of the full text. However, if you have something original to say, by all means write away. And remember, there's now the forum to start any discussions or to go off topic. Basically, let's have fun and see how this develops.

Feel free to e-mail if you have any questions. Everyone who registered previously can still use their old User Name and password. Everything's the same. Just better.
