2005 Draft II

Word from the Commissioner's Office is that Draft Day 2005 will be Saturday, March 12.

Now, here's where things get interesting: what if we hold the draft down here in Florida? This has been discussed by several owners in the past, so let me answer some of your questions.

What do I get by going all the way down there that I can't get in New Jersey?

Spring Training. Tampa is in the center of the action with the Yankees, Phillies, Jays, Rays, Pirates, Reds, Tigers, and Indians all no more than an hour away.

That's cool, but what else?

How about warm weather? New York in March can be, well, freakin freezing. The average March temperature in Tampa? 66.6 (and that's cool down here).

Okay, but why this year?

As you may know, my plan is to move after I graduate next May. That desire was beaten home this Tuesday and it has become a need to get back to the educated "blue" Northeast ASAP. So, this may be our last chance to do this Spring Training-Draft Weekend thing for awhile.

Weekend? How much time are we talking?

It's your call. You can make it a three or four day weekend or make it part of a longer vacation. It's four months away, so everyone should be able to arrange the time they want.

Time's one thing. What about money?

Good question. Fares to Florida are generally pretty affordable. I suggest looking into JetBlue or Song. Like I mentioned earlier, look at it as a much needed end of winter vacation.

Some of us have a family or at least a lady "friend" to consider.

Just because she takes your money, doesn't mean she's a friend. Or even a lady. Anyway, the draft itself only takes up a few hours on Saturday and the rest of the time is yours to spend how you want. It's really up to you, but we'll make everyone feel welcome.

What else?

Well, you get the chance to see the famed LOC Cup. If you're good, I'll even let you take your picture with it. After all, everyone deserves the chance to feel like a winner even if they know it's only pretend.

Basically, I think it would be a lot of fun and a good opportunity to do something different. Take some time to weigh your options and think it over. Thanks.

I cast a "Yea" vote on Florida. Let's do it up nice.

I think that this could surely be a very exciting possibility, but it may be financially and logistically impossible for me. Of course, Alex and/or I could always participate virtually, so that should not preclude this if others want to go this way.

i wouldn't mind beginning the Capuchin rebuilding process in style. let's do this.

i'm down...
